Meridian is the County Seat of Bosque
County and is home to the newly renovated Bosque County
Courthouse.
The courthouse houses the
offices of the County Judge, District Clerk, County Clerk
and the District Court.
Meridian is also home to the
Bosque County Collections.
This unit of the County houses
all of the historical records of Bosque County and a small
museum on the ground floor.
Citizens seeking genealogical
information flock to the Collections for research.

Hidden away in the wooded hills
northwest of Waco lies
Meridian State Park, a haven
for nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts.
The park’s 72 acre lake offers
fishing in addition to swimming and no-wake boating.
A hiking trail encircling Lake
Meridian features limestone outcroppings with fossils, a
scenic overlook and aquatic vegetation.
Bird watching is excellent and
there is a good chance of seeing the rare Golden Cheek
Warbler.
Meridian State Park boasts 505.4
acres.
The rock and earthen dam was
constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on Bee
Creek to form the park’s lake.
The land was acquired from
private owners in 1933 – 1935 and was opened to the public
in 1935.
Tonkawa Indians lived in the
surrounding area before the coming of white man; Tawakoni
Indians also occupied the area prior to 1841.
The Texas-Sante Fe expedition of
1841 passed through Bosque County near the present site of
the park in Bosque Valley.
Activities include Camping, fishing
picnicking, hiking, lake swimming, boating, bird watching,
and bicycling on park roads.

Lake Whiney State Park is
approximately 25 miles Southeast of Meridian.
The 955 acre lake Whitney State
Park was acquired in 1954 by a Department of Army lease and
opened in May 1965.
The park is along the east shore
of Lake Whitney west of Hillsboro in Hill County.
The park is located on Lake Whitney
near ruins of Towash, an early Texas settlement inundated by
Lake Whitney.
Towash Village was named for the
chief of Hainai Indians, who moved into the area in 1835.
Activities include camping, hiking,
mountain biking, picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming,
scuba diving, water skiing, nature study, and excellent
birding.

Red Caboose winery was officially
permitted on October 8, 2005.
Since they have fermented 2005
through 2009 wines.
The winery and vineyards are
located on the G Lazy M Ranch in beautiful Bosque County,
South of Fort Worth and Dallas and East of Meridian.
They process grapes from the
16.03 acres of vineyards planted on this site plus vineyards
in other Texas locations. Visit them on the web at

The Bosque Museum is a museum about
Bosque County life and culture.
The museum highlights the
county’s unique ethnic groups and early pioneer life.
The museum contains the largest
collection of Norwegian artifacts in the South and
Southwest, a significant collection of Indian artifacts and
an important collection of early Texas furniture and
textiles.
The museum was founded in 1924
and is the recipient of numerous awards.
It is one of the oldest museums
in the State of Texas.
