Meridian is governed by a City Council with a Mayor and five Council members.  These representatives of the citizens are elected to terms that are staggered to allow for new elections every year.  Meridian is a General Law Type A City meaning that its laws are handed down to them from the state legislature.

The City Council meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00pm at the Meridian Fire Station, 110 Bateman, Meridian Texas.
